We will continue with the Questions People Ask God sermon series through the end of May. The sermon text will be Isaiah 58:1-14. The question we will focus on is in verse 3.
Why have we fasted, and You see it not?
Why have we humbled ourselves, and You take no knowledge of it?’
1. Who asked this question of God? From the context, how would you describe the spiritual life and practice of the people who asked this question?
2. Read verses 4b-5. Who gets to decide what the fast ought to be like?
3. In what way were these people misunderstanding what God wanted from them?
4. How should this passage inform the way you worship God? And the way you treat others?
5. What does this passage reveal about the relationship between your worship of God and your treatment of others?
