Philippians 1:27-30

We will be returning to our sermon series on God’s Road Signs this Sunday. The sermon text is Philippians 1:27-30, with the focus on verse 28b.

Realize that all the signs we’ve been looking at contain at least two components. There is actual sign and then there is that which this sign points to. For example, in Genesis 9, the actual sign is the rainbow in the sky. The covenant promises are that which the sign points to. Keeping this distinction in mind, the following questions are provided for you to begin preparing for this sermon.

1. Specifically, what is the actual sign that is described in our sermon text?

2. What is it that the sign points to?

3. Do believers and non-believers “interpret” this sign the same way?

4. How is this sign manifest in the world we live in?

5. What is the conflict that Paul is referring to in verse 30? (see Col 1:29; 2:1; 1 Tim 6:12; 2 Tim 4:7; Acts 16:19-40; 1 Thess 2:2). How are you engaged in this same conflict?
